Vegetarian, Jain & halal food
Bali is one of the easiest places for vegetarians and vegans, with plenty of warung and cafe options; try gado-gado and tempeh dishes. Most of Indonesia is Muslim, so halal food is easy to find outside Hindu Bali.
Travelling with kids or parents
Nusa Penida's roads and cliff paths are rough: with parents, choose a calmer snorkel trip instead. Traffic in the south is slow, so keep driving days short.
Good to know
- Dress modestly at temples; a sarong is usually provided.
- Nusa Penida boats depend on the sea: keep a spare day.
- Use Grab or Gojek for short rides.
